What is FOMS:

FOMS is the Foundations of Open Media Standards and Software developer workshop.

It is an annual meetup of software developers and tinkerers of all stripes who gather to collaborate, code, and lay plans for future open video technologies.

FOMS provides a unique environment where both Web developers and browser vendors meet and discuss the Web platform as it relates to multimedia applications.

This year, the workshop deliberately takes place just after the VideoLAN Developer Days to open access to an even broader range of open source media developers.

Who will attend?

In the past we had a diverse group of attendees. This included:

  • Developers from open source organisations and project such as Xiph.org, VideoLAN, libav, FFMpeg, Dirac, GStreamer, PiTiVi, WebM project, Flumotion
  • Browser vendors: Mozilla, Google, Opera, WebKit
  • Video technology companies: Kaltura, Longtail Video, Entropy Wave, Fluendo, LiveTranscoding
  • Web video users: pad.ma, Wikipedia, OpenMeetings.org, Internet Archive, Plone/Plumi, BBC
  • Research institutes: EURECOM, W3C participants
  • Video networking companies: Akamai

How to attend:

FOMS attendees will be developers of open media software and standards from the community as well as professional delegates from companies.

The attendance fee for professional delegates is € 350 - participation by community developers is free.

Attendees are expected to be active contributors in open media software and standards.

Attendees should prepare a brief introduction on themselves and the projects they represent for the initial round-robin session.

Attendees can also lead a discussion session.
