Digital media technology is at a critical moment in time, where a broader adoption of open media software will enable a better future for all of us. However, open media technology has not seen the same sort of uptake as proprietary technology. On 11th and 12th January, the first FOMS workshop took place. We worked towards moving into the 21st century of media technology where people are not prosecuted for enabling a platform-independent access to content and where people are allowed and enabled to share free content freely. Deleted lines 10-13:
As part of the workshop we established short term and long term goals for the open media community. Here are our CommunityGoalsAdded lines 15-18:
As part of the workshop we worked together at locating gaps in our technologies that stop them from working together as smoothly as expected, and at identifying new software that is required. We established short term and long term goals for the open media community, which we as a community commit to over the next year and which will make a difference. in Sydney, Australia The first FOMS Developer Meeting will be held on the Thursday and Friday before linux.conf.au 2007, one of the world's most respected Linux and Open Source developer conferences. The aim of the FOMS meeting is get the right people together to take the next steps in open media software. Meet and discuss your plans for the next 12 months with other developers and forge relationships to unwind the kinks, making open media kick ever more ass. We do not have many occasions where open source video/audio software is discussed and where projects cross-fertilize. The proximity to linux.conf.au allows us also to discuss audio- and video-related issues with the developers of Open Source kernel, networking and desktop systems.
